Academy Student
Example: Konohamaru

An Acadamy student, like Konohamaru, goes through much training and exams to become a Gennin. An Acadamy student, is just what the title is- a school student. Acadamy students will learn simple, yet helpful skills for their ninja future- such as the replecation technique. Acadamy students usually are 8-11 years old. Unlike Gennin, Acadamy Students are not on teams, and only have a single teacher which teaches a class of about 20-24 students. Iruka sensei is one of these teachers, or senseis. To Graduate, Acadamy Students will take a final exam, and recieve a headband. Of course these students do not go on missions yet either.

Gennin
Example: Naruto

The biggest part of being a Gennin is being on a team. A Gennin which I will refer to as 'G' is in a team with 2 of his past acadamy classmates, and a sensei. In Naruto's case, his teamates are Sakura and Sasuke. His Sensei is Kakashi. All teams are paired by grade. Naruto had the worst grade in the class, so he had to be paired with Sasuke, the best grade in the class. All G teams are set up like this. For a full guide of all teams go here. Another major part of being a G, is that you can go on missions.

There are 4 ranks of Missions. The four ranks are A, B, C, D. As you can guess, the A & B missions are quite harder, and are usually carried out by teams of Jonin or higher. As for C, and D missions- those are much simpler and can be carried out by Chunnin & Gennin. As A Gennin, you will mostly get D ranked missions. In D ranked missions, a ninja will usually do a household task, such as walking a dog, picking out weeds, or babysitting. All these tasks are from the villagers, who in return give money for completed tasks. As for A and B missions- I'll talk about that later. To Graduate from being a Gennin, A Ninja will have to take a 3- part exam. The first part is written, the second part is in Area 44(Physical test, in the Forest of Death) and the Third part is a one-on-one physical battle.

Chunnin
Example: Shikamaru

Being a Chunnin isn't too different from being a Gennin. A Chunnin however is much more important. As Gennin go on D ranked missions, Chunnin usually go on to C ranked missions, and some B ranked missions as well. A major part of being a Chunnin is that you can be a team leader. Shikamaru was the only Chunnin who passed first out of all his classmates. Shikamaru becomes a leader and carries out many missions.

Jonin
Example: Kakashi

I personally think a Jonin is the best rank to be in. No paper work like a Hokage, and no exams like an Acadamy student. Not only that, a Jonin has much more perks ahead. Jonin are usually over 20 years old, and have amazing skill with ninjitsu and/or taijitsu. A Jonin however, can be a Sensei, or teacher, to a Gennin Team. For Example: Kakashi(a jonin) is the sensei to Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke. Another cool thing about Jonin is that they can carry out missions all by themselves. Usually Jonin get A & B ranked missions. Some of these missions can be done solo by a Jonin- others will require a team of Jonin.

Hokage
Example: The Third Hokage; Sarutobi Sensei

Ever heard of the saying, "the Best of the Best?" well, that's what a Hokage is. Being A Hokage isn't all fun and games though. A Hokage must do tons of paperwork everyday, and complete it on time. Such paperwork will include mission information and reports, bills, donations, or warnings. To be entrusted with the title Hokage, a person must be willing to give their life for their village. Just as all the before Hokages did. There have currently been 5 hokages, and Naruto wants to be the sixth. Even after all the hard parts of being Hokage, you do get your face carved into stone for all the villagers to see. Even after a Hokage dies, everyone will still remember you. The third Hokage was the most recent Hokage to die, and he died by being killed by Orochimaru. HOwever, the Third did take all of Orochimaru's jutsus and seal them into his body. That's the best way for a Hokage to die- dying by protecting your village.
